Cold Weather

Well the cold weather is here, I knew it was going to hit us sooner or later. I've actually gotten use to the colder weather upper 20's and 30's isn't really all that bad to run in if the road and side walks are clear. It does get tricky because some of my route does not have side walks, and there is still some snow and ice on some walk ways. I actually think it's kind of funny running on it, but man what a work out to do. You have to keep your balance as you run, it gets very tricky and it's almost like running in the sand a bit but its cold ice and snow. I was able to get out today, it's now 18 degree's with a Winds of chills of 9 degress and wind gusts up to 27 mph. It wasn't to bad, the wind that is, I really thought it was going to be worse. I dressed in 3 layers of pants and a tank top, turtle neck, sweat jacket, & My running coat. I was very warm and didn't feel the wind or cold at all on my upper body. (of course I put on my pink hat & my mittens which makes a hug difference) Tommorrow is going to be a gym day, it is going to be in the single digits. I find a lot of times running in the cold my legs feel a lot heavier. I'm not to sure if it's because of the cold or because of all the clothes I'm wearing. Plus breathing in the cold air I find it a bit more difficult the first half of my 3.5 mile run. I hope it warms up a bit by next week. Running in the winter is incredibly challenging.

I can now imagine! I had difficulty walking just 5 minutes in single digit temps from my hotel to the restaurant next door. The snow/ice made my footing iffy, I was wearing much more clothes than usual and my face was frozen. Kudos to you for getting out there!!

I am proud of you running in the cold like that...I am not sure I could do that...I like my warm, Florida weather!

I noticed your comment about needing 3 pair of tights so came to your website to see where you live since I too live where its been necessary to wear 3 pair of tights. But this week was a total indoor week. Good job getting out there. Have you tried Yak Trax for your shoes?
